Summary

The long-awaited return of hardboiled feline P。I。 Blacksad in the latest tour de force from the multiple-award-winning duo of writer Juan Daz Canales and artist Juanjo Guarnido!

After a seven-year hiatus, this worldwide noir bestseller returns to American shores with a brand-new two-part storyline。 Detective John Blacksad deals with the mob, the unions, and mid-century "master builder" Lewis Solomon, who plans to pave over New York City's green spaces, come hell or high water。 While Blacksad must navigate from the lofty world of 1950s theater all the way to the city's seedy depths, Solomon looms above it all in pursuit of his own dreams--but at what cost? Meanwhile, Weekly finds himself in the hot seat just as an old flame comes back to burn his pal Blacksad!

"A tour de force! Don't miss this!"--Neal Adams

"Grade A!"--Entertainment Weekly

"Brilliant art and an unusual display of anthropomorphic realism。"--Will Eisner

"Ranks among the very best cartooning I've ever seen in comics。"--iFanboy

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Well that one had a cliff hanger。 No story wrapped up tight in this one and I don’t recall who was on the splash page at the at。 But it’s about corruption in the government and saving face to build an amphitheater to a frame job of the highest order。

I have been fascinated with the Blacksad series from the time I first found out about it - rapidly collecting the various volumes。 You can imagine my pleasure at finding out that the series was far from over and a new volume was to be released (this is the first of 2 such volumes - the second I am eagerly awaiting confirmation of the publication date)。 Everything fits so well together - from the artwork, the storyline and even the characters - you can see why this series has won so many awards o I have been fascinated with the Blacksad series from the time I first found out about it - rapidly collecting the various volumes。 You can imagine my pleasure at finding out that the series was far from over and a new volume was to be released (this is the first of 2 such volumes - the second I am eagerly awaiting confirmation of the publication date)。 Everything fits so well together - from the artwork, the storyline and even the characters - you can see why this series has won so many awards over the years。 And even though this appears to be a return to the world of Blacksad it is no reboot with familiar faces appearing through the pages。 Where it goes I do not honestly know - (although I will guess no where good) as in my eagerness I have bought (and read) this volume before the second volume has been published breaking one of my own rules I enjoy this series so much so I guess we all will have to be patient and draw our own conclusions in the mean time 。。。more

My Selling Pitch:Do you want a film noir detective story? Did you like Zootopia? Do you like gorgeous watercolors?Pre-reading:It’s Blacksad。 I already know I like it。 This is the one I haven't read before。 I'm excited。 Thick of it:I don’t like Blacksad’s face on the cover。 Something just looks pinched about it。 The drawings look even more detailed omg。 The little bat is so cute。 I’m confused what animal she’s supposed to be with the blue on her face。 But like Weekly is okay right? Oh no。Why is A My Selling Pitch:Do you want a film noir detective story? Did you like Zootopia? Blacksad is back in New York, this time tasked with protecting Kenneth Clarke of the president of the Transport Workers Union。 Meanwhile, Weekly is tasked with following Kenneth’s opponent, Lewis Solomon, construction magnate and adversary of Blacksad’s new client。 I’ve been a fan of Blacksad for years now, so I’m thrilled we finally have a new story。 The last volume sidelined Weekly for most of it, so I’m glad he’s back。 While the designs of some of the women characters continue to be strangely Blacksad is back in New York, this time tasked with protecting Kenneth Clarke of the president of the Transport Workers Union。 Meanwhile, Weekly is tasked with following Kenneth’s opponent, Lewis Solomon, construction magnate and adversary of Blacksad’s new client。 I’ve been a fan of Blacksad for years now, so I’m thrilled we finally have a new story。 The last volume sidelined Weekly for most of it, so I’m glad he’s back。 While the designs of some of the women characters continue to be strangely human-ish, like Rachel, other characters and their designs are delightful, like many of the underground workers and Super Manny, the raccoon shoeshine。 While corrupt businessmen and the mob aren’t out of the ordinary for Blacksad or the noir genre, it was interesting to see theater and journalism take a large role in the story。 I’ll have to look up the difference between yellow journalism and new journalism, a plot point that drives some tension between Weekly and Rachel。 Since it’s a part one, it of course ends on a cliffhanger, but the twist at the end is ever juicier。 I’m itching for part two to come out in English ASAP! 。。。more

I wolfed this Blacksad book down in one sitting。 Blacksad is hired to stop the guy trying to whack the head of the transportation union, Weekly is infatuated with an actress, and master builder Solomon is looking to destroy the subway system and build more streets。 There's intrigue, action, and some duplicitous shit。 It ends on a cliffhanger and what a way to leave things。The art is gorgeous, as usual, and the writing has its usual punch。 If you've followed Blacksad this far, you won't want to m I wolfed this Blacksad book down in one sitting。 Blacksad is hired to stop the guy trying to whack the head of the transportation union, Weekly is infatuated with an actress, and master builder Solomon is looking to destroy the subway system and build more streets。 There's intrigue, action, and some duplicitous shit。 It ends on a cliffhanger and what a way to leave things。The art is gorgeous, as usual, and the writing has its usual punch。 If you've followed Blacksad this far, you won't want to miss this。 。。。more

An interesting read! I'm afraid I was unfamiliar with John Blacksad going into this, but I didn't feel lost or like I was missing anything huge, so if you haven't read any of the previous Blacksad stuff, you should be fine jumping in here。 The story felt kinda slow burn to me, but also moves at a steady pace; there's a lot going on here, from Shakespeare in the Park to the mob messing around with unions to a "master builder" willing to do anything to achieve his dreams to cold-blooded murder and An interesting read! Soooo much detail for the reader to get lost in! I think my favorite thing was an ad poster down in the subway; Tony the Tiger hits very differently in a world filled with anthropomorphic animals! The character designs were great, and I loved the theater group's costumes for Macbeth (my favorite of Shakespeare's plays)! All in all, a fun noir-ish read, and I'm looking forward to the next volume。 。。。more

4。5 stars, because oh man, this was so good! Easily my favourite Blacksad story since "Arctic Nation"。 I'm not even going to rave about the drawing style, because I've loved and adored it in every single one of those albums and this doesn't make any difference。 I'm going to rave about the story, because it's actually strong again! There is a proper plot with suspense, twists and turns, and a cliffhanger that makes me die for a translation of the next part。 The fact that the story doesn't end her 4。5 stars, because oh man, this was so good!

Great story I loved the animals they use this time for the characters they've very cool looking in the humanoid transformation like the vampire bat!

A union leader representing workers on the new subway system thinks he’s become the target of a shady Robert Moses-type called Solomon, whose rival suspension bridge seems to be competing for the same future New York traffic, so he hires John Blacksad to help him out。 Meanwhile, Weekly falls for an actress and begins looking into Solomon’s dealings。 Blacksad is back with a new book, They All Fall Down - Part One, and it’s the most boring story arc yet, unfortunately。 I’m guessing a little at the A union leader representing workers on the new subway system thinks he’s become the target of a shady Robert Moses-type called Solomon, whose rival suspension bridge seems to be competing for the same future New York traffic, so he hires John Blacksad to help him out。 Meanwhile, Weekly falls for an actress and begins looking into Solomon’s dealings。 Blacksad is back with a new book, They All Fall Down - Part One, and it’s the most boring story arc yet, unfortunately。 I’m guessing a little at the motivations of Solomon as to why he’s targeting the union leader, Kenneth Clarke, because it’s such a dull read that my attention kept slipping (couldn’t both transport routes co-exist?)。 But that’s because it’s a dreary “corruption at city hall” style story which is never interesting and remains the case here。 The actors/Shakespeare in the Park subplot is only vaguely connected to the main storyline and took up way too much space considering how largely irrelevant it is。 Except for that final page which is… really underwhelming。 And only cemented my feeling that I won’t be coming back for the next part of this snorefest。 Juanjo Guarnido’s art remains simply incredible。 The amount of detail in each panel is jaw-dropping, the colouring is perfect, and each page is stunning。 He’s insanely talented and is by far the biggest reason for anyone to pick up this otherwise mediocre (sometime) noir series。 Unless great art is enough for you, Blacksad: They All Fall Down - Part One is only going to be worth checking out for die-hard fans of this title。 。。。more

Note: I received this book in exchange for an honest review from the publisher。Incredibly detailed illustration with expressive characters and a style distinct from other comics。 The story didn't draw me in as much as I had hoped but it wasn't bad。 Note: I received this book in exchange for an honest review from the publisher。Incredibly detailed illustration with expressive characters and a style distinct from other comics。 The story didn't draw me in as much as I had hoped but it wasn't bad。 。。。more

Tutustuin Blacksadiin aikoinaan sarjisvinkkauksessa ja tämä noir-henkinen Amerikan historiaa kuvaava sarja on siitä asti ollut ehdottomia suosikkejani。 Nyt liikutaan ammattiliittojen maailmassa - näin sopivasti kunta-alan lakon aikana。 Osuvat hahmot, tiukka politiikka ja kiinnostava juoni luovat perustan, jolle rakastettavat huumorinpilkahdukset ja tyly välivalta antavat persoonallisen leiman。 Eläinhahmoja käytetään kekseliäästi ja piirustustaide on uskomattoman yksityiskohtaista ja kuumottavaa Tutustuin Blacksadiin aikoinaan sarjisvinkkauksessa ja tämä noir-henkinen Amerikan historiaa kuvaava sarja on siitä asti ollut ehdottomia suosikkejani。 Nyt liikutaan ammattiliittojen maailmassa - näin sopivasti kunta-alan lakon aikana。 Osuvat hahmot, tiukka politiikka ja kiinnostava juoni luovat perustan, jolle rakastettavat huumorinpilkahdukset ja tyly välivalta antavat persoonallisen leiman。 Eläinhahmoja käytetään kekseliäästi ja piirustustaide on uskomattoman yksityiskohtaista ja kuumottavaa :)。 。。。more

Hei, odotus on päättynyt! Vuonna 2013 ilmestyneen Amarillo jälkeen Juan Díaz Canales on ollut kiireinen muun muassa Corto Maltesen seikkailujen parissa, mutta nyt se on viimein täällä: uusi Blacksad-sarjakuva。Ja kannattihan tuota odottaa, sillä pitemmän tarinalinjan käynnistävä "Kun kaikki sortuu" (Story House Egmont, 2022) on erinomainen albumi, ihan yksi sarjan parhaista。 Tällä kertaa kissaetsivämme pestataan suojelemaan isokenkäisten rakennuttajien tielle osunutta ay-pomoa。 Kiemuraiseen juone Hei, odotus on päättynyt!
